Photography 101

This introductory photography workshop will teach you the fundamentals required to get the best possible images from your digital SLR.  You will learn how to take control of your camera and use all of its functions to their fullest.  We’ll help you understand the essentials of exposure and how to use the settings and presets available in your camera.  You will be taught about the quality of available light and when to use it or rely on your flash. You will leave with a strong comprehension of your camera’s focusing system and be able to produce well-exposed, sharp images on demand. We’ll discuss composition and the vital principals of photography that must be followed to produce appealing photos.  You will leave this workshop empowered and inspired to start capturing the images you’ve always wanted to.

  • Master your camera’s controls, get out of AUTO mode
  • Understand your camera’s focusing system and adjust it to meet your needs
  • Setting up your camera for different shooting scenarios
  • How to recognize and understand light: Quality, temperature and direction

Sports Photography – Introduction

This introduction to sports photography workshop will teach you everything you need to know about capturing action, both indoors and out.  You will learn how to freeze or blur moving subjects at will using available or artificial light.  We’ll show you how to push the limits of your camera’s focusing system to teach you just what it’s capable of.  We’ll discuss some of the challenging photographic situations to record action in and how to overcome them.  You will be show how to quickly turn to your camera’s automated settings or to go manual and take full control over the results.  We’ll teach you how to apply these newly learned skills to photograph the action in your life.

Sports Photography – Advanced

These are the black arts of photography and once you learn them, you’ll be a master. You will be taught everything you need to know about off camera strobes, Pocket Wizards and triggering remote cameras.  You will be able to set up complex lighting configurations as well as how to overpower daylight with large battery operated light packs.  You will have the opportunity to see and try the gear necessary to take your sports photography to the next level.   This workshop will impart you with the photojournalistic side of sports photography and how to come back from a shoot or event with the images required to tell the complete story.  Everything from on location team, environmental and individual athlete portraiture will be demonstrated.   You will be shown how to configure, pack, carry, travel and work with several popular systems to best use your gear in the field.  We’ll teach you how to nail the shots using every trick that’s in the book and many that aren’t.  This is a two-day course that takes place on location with both practical and classroom based instruction.

Digital Photography Workflow

In this course you will learn how to quickly capture, edit and deliver your images.  We’ll cover what the best formats are to capture your images in and discuss colour, quality and delivery.  We will show you the best way to capture images on the road and and how to transfer them once back home.  You will be show how to organize, catalogue and keyword your images using Adobe Lightroom.  We’ll cover the RAW image editing darkroom and share some popular image editing recipes.  You will be show how to properly backup and store you images to prevent loos and have them ready at a moments notice.  Finally, we will show you how to prepare your images for print, deliver them to clients or share them on the web.
